About the Business
Before training to become a plumber, I was qualified as a Veterinary Nurse for 15 years, nursing sick and injured animals in various practices both nationally and internationally. I reached the top of my career, working to the highest standards at specialist referral centres for the last 9 years, the final centre being Hursley near Winchester. It was here that I then made the decision to provide myself with a completely new challenge.
In July 2008, I enrolled at The Plumbing Academy in Kent, a then, privately owned centre focusing mainly on the career changer. Here, I learnt in great detail, how the convoluted map of pipes and their appliances came together to provide houses with clean drinkable water, hot water, sanitation and heating. The course included 40 weeks of intense theory and practical workshops, all in accordance with the current requirements of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineers. It was then left up to the student to find work outside the college during or after the course, so I worked with a bathroom refurbishment specialist for six months where I gained the valuable experience and confidence required to set up my own business.
